Want a quick and effective way to monitor, observe, and analyze student progress during small group instruction? Try using a Small Group Checklist! It’s a simple but powerful tool to help you stay organized and gather meaningful data during instruction.
✅ Why Use It?
- Helps track student participation, skills practiced, and progress over time
- Makes it easier to spot patterns and identify students who need additional support.
- Supports documentation for RTI, IEPs, or parent conferences
- Organizes data for instructional planning
💡 How to Fill Out the Checklist
🧍Top Section:
- Name: Student’s full name
- Number: Number of times the teacher has worked with the student during the week (not the student’s classroom number)
- Week of: Insert the date/week the group work takes place
🗒️ Checklist Tasks:
- ✅ Independent Reading with response in the journal
- ✅ Independent Writing with response in the journal
- ✅ Small Group Work with the teacher
- ✅ Tech Tool / Name + Day (1–5):
- Write the tool used (e.g., i-Ready, Lexia, Dreambox, Progress Learning, Epic, etc.)
- Note which day it was used
📘 Bottom Section:
- TEKS:
- Write the specific TEKS code practiced (e.g., 2.6B, 3.9A, 4.10)
- Instructional Focus:
- Write down the key concept taught (e.g., “Main idea and details,” “Author Purpose and Craft,” “Point of View,” or “R-controlled vowels”, etc.)
- Goals:
- Set specific student goals here
- Progress Indicators:
- ✅ = Met
- → = In Progress
- ✗ = Needs Additional Support
- Behavior Notes:
- ✓ Staying on task
- → In progress
- ✗ Needs reinforcement
- Additional Comments:
- Use for notes like absences, attitude, tech problems, etc.
